The class starts with a look at some of Africa’s abundant creativity and beauty and includes discussion about designs, colours, techniques and embellishments. Class handouts introduce students to a variety of intriguing patterns widely sourced from African arts, crafts and textiles. This is a starting point to develop your original quilt top, inspired by the designs you have chosen.
Combine machine-pieced units of various sizes to complete or nearly complete a small to medium quilt top depending on the size of your quilt. Learn about composition, colour and textures such as raw edges. Some appliqué may also be included. Bring to class your own sources of African inspiration, such as pictures, objects and fabrics, that stir your imagination.
Sewing Machine required.
