Day One Explore the use of line as the main design element in your quilt compositions and understand the characteristics and effects of different types of lines. Structured exercises form the basis of our study of line as we experiment, observe and improvise. Students will make several small works in fabric using mostly fused fabrics and machine stitching. An inspirational slide-show will illustrate lines as seen in art, nature and man-made structures. Discover new directions for your work with this focus on line.
Day Two Start a quilt and apply and interpret the information you have learnt about line in Day One. Also bring your own independent ideas to class, which may be in the form of photos, pictures, sketches or actual objects. Use any techniques that you feel comfortable with e.g. piecing, fusing, appliqué, embroidery, embellishment.
